Rap music is going straight to Satan!

So far the vacation is going well. I ready to start the next leg and guest what, all of the seats are filled for the flight back to Baltimore. I hope they give me a seat, otherwise somebody at that airline better give me a voucher. On to the post.

People ask me why don't I listen to rap music(I like Mos Def and Common). This is the reason why. This is nothing but pure tomfoolery. Violence of this type is also one of the reasons that many rap artists struggle to go on tour. A lot of insurance companies don't want to cover them or they are charged an exorbitant amount compared to artists who perform other types of music.

I'm not really a rap fan either. I have maybe 10 rap songs on my iPod and that is it. It's mostly too ignorant and sexist for me to tolerate....

I don't mind the beats and fun energy of some rap songs... but i'm more into slow songs... I never listen to rap for the lyrics thats for sure though... thats not to say there aren't some rappers who have important things to say... just don't have time to sift through sometimes

We are in the same boat. I only listen to old school hip hop, most of what comes out today is total crap!

I'm right there with you. I nod my head to the beats, but I consciously ignore the lyrics. And I refuse to watch the videos. I'm finding myself more into R&B and old school stuff now.

I like certain rap songs/ artists and I'm not gonna lie I've danced or sung the words to some completely offensive rap songs simply because the beat was catchy but I would never buy or endorse the song itself or embody the quality of the females that they're referring to as backwards as that sounds

Well i feel that rap music embodies the lower class urban exprience in nyc ( im going to stick to what i know), personally i have grown from liking stricktly rap and hip hop to listening to a wide array of music

But back to rap, granted todays rap artists are wack and hsve nothing to say but that is due to the climate of the music industry today, i challenge anyone to listen to any Jay-z or Naz Biggie, PAc and even an outkast album, ( im intentionally leaving out the Commoms and Mos- Def's of the world as we all can agree that they are of their own cloth and make music that individuals whom read ms. baltimore blogs may consenually agree is art) and tell me their work at least on a lyrical level is not art

And when we speak of violence in rap, it is a recreational way for the afrcan american male dealing with the evertday stress of being black in america to deal with his stress. I have found myself playing jay-z first album and feeling the same sort of alievating therapy i feel when i play a john legend album ( mind you i am a well educated nigerian male whom may not meet the streotypical image of a rap fan
