Nigerian People

who I may have offended, please know that I apologize if I offended you with the terms Green Card Gary or NWG(Nigerian Without A Green Card). While visiting another blog, I noticed that someone referred to African-American musician John Legend as an Acata. For all my African-American readers this is a word Nigerians often use as a nickname for African-Americans. It is a very negative name, it translates to wild animal. Well, I responded that Acata is a very negative name, and I don't think it is something African-Americans should be called. Lo and behold, someone(who called themselves ???) wrote that I had the nerve to talk because of the terms NWG and GCG. Well I made it known that in no way were the terms I used as negative as Akata. Anyway, as I said earlier, I apologize to those I may have offended. y

Hello beautyinbaltimore i understand that u r upset but pleaseeeeee i do not like you referencing my blog as a point of negativity...i personally am offended now. it gives the impression tht my blog breeds negativity which it doesnt.

if u visit u see tht people just leave comments and rarely attack each other.
someone said 'akata' in passing not while trying to insult anyone...personally i do not say 'akata' but it definitely does not mean 'wild animal' and it is not equal to the n-word either.....i personally am offended by 'green card garry' too

"Acata", to the best of my knowledge doesn't mean "Wild Animal" Where did you heard that? Or could it be the from the Wesley Snipes movie.( the name escapes me)

"Acata" pales in comparison to "N***R, It can never be the same!

I reverted to Your NWA or Green Card Gary entry and I have to give Kudos to the commentator, Naija Gal for putting things in perspective for you.

I Don't think any of our "card carrying" Nigerian men have read your your entry or else they too would've have made a remark or two.

In my opinion, Green Card Gary also known as NWG(Nigerian without a Greencard) Is a very derogatory remark.

you know what... i think that you can't please everyone.. so i wouldn't stress it.. i dont think that i woulda apologized for your comments about the dude b/c you weren't generalizing anyone... you were referring to the the dude that was from nigeria that did not have a greencard & would like to marry you in order to stay in the country.. i think anyone that has a problem w/ you using that term to not put the dudes' name out there should just stay away from your blog.. they dont have to read it. it's your blog.. to write whatever the hell you want to! just as i'm sure those who feel some type of way about ur remarks will do the same..

and just so there isnt any confusion.. why doesnt someone inform everyone what the term "akata" means since it doesn't equate to "wild animal" or "nigger" - just saying "that's not what it means" doesn't mean that the term isn't negative...

dont listen to anyone who thinks you shouldnt have apologized. Its good that you apologized. It shows ur mature and don't take things to heart. Dont let anyone stir shit on your blog. you have apologised and it should end here. If they wouldnt apologize maybe they should blog about it on thier own. Trust me you did good!

Hello Miss, I just ran across your blog , just to bring to your understanding, "Akata" is in no way disrespecting or an insult to african-americans. It typically means they are black but they have american accent. Educate your mind before you jump into conclusion.

Do u call this apology? it is not an apology. it is just a way to stir up negativity and seek more attention! please try to use your blog for something more positive than talking about having sex with married swingers that you met online and inspiring hatred between africans and african americans

Hey peeps no anger here let it go! There is no need to attack the blogger and her lifestyle

@anonymous- . Do you really think it is nessary(spell) to insult her like that. I think that most people who write blogs are well aware at one point they are going to get some neagative feedback, so I hope beauty is not hurting over your words. Besides, a bad chick would come back at you and have your man to get even for your comment about her lifestyle.

.......and back to the regular scheduled programming....I guess every blog needs a commercial break.
Beauty I hope this doesn't deter you from your blogs, lol....I think I'll suffer withdrawal if they go away!!!

@ bellanaija- I in no way meant to refer your blog as a point of negativity. I was simply giving my readers an opportunity to see the disscusion unfold for themselves. If you think what I did is something wait until you have been blogging a little longer, you have seen nothing yet.
@ raymond- Bring it down brother.
@ bleach- As you can see in the post I apologized. I didn't think it was a nearly as harsh as what I've heard Nigerian men here in Baltimore refered to on many occasions.
@ttd- I could not have said it better myself, thanks.
@Nikka- Thanks
@Najadude- My dear, I am part Nigerian so I know of what I speak. Furthermore, the Nigerians(some) in Maryland have no qualms about telling people it means something negative(mainly wild animal or pig/hog).
@ anonymous- If you did not like my aplogy, oh well, keep it moving. You can please some of the people all the time, but never all of the people all of the time. I don't have to stir up hatred, there is enough to last a lifetime. Besides, I have better things to do.
@ yea I said it- You are off the hook.
@ reintroduced- Not in a million years. Thanks for commenting.

One last thing.
@ anonymous- Wow, I'm prety sure this comment came from a female(lifestyle comment). Most females who make those type of comments about another female usually behave in a far more open manner than I do.My dear, its called projection. I would not be surprised if you have more miles on your pussy than a Delta airlines jet. If you don't like, don't read it.Be a big gurl, anonymous is not a name/title.

@Get it right- Thank you.

so u r half Nigerian? What half are you? Do u see ur self as Nigerian or American. Only ask because your title seems like you are not partly what you call yourself..Think about it. Words are very strong. So lets all be careful what we put on peoples blogs

@ anonymous- My father is Nigerian. I see myself as African-American and African. Just so you know I've debated with African-Americans and blacks from other parts of the world about the way they view Africa. I'm sorry to inform you but "CG" is nothing compared to some of the names I've heard Nigerian men refered to because of their desperation for papers. In Baltimore it has become so bad that many women ask were the guy is from(Nigeria no, Kenya yes, Ghana yes) before they give him the time of day. Some women refuse to date anyone with a accent because of stories they have heard from friends and other people. Beleive me, I've heard enough stories to last a life time.

@ anonymous-If you look at my email add, it is very clearly a Nigerian name(Yorbua). I'm aware of a number of Nigerian bloggers who don't make a big thing of their Nigerian heritage. It is not a question of being ashamed. I just prefer to talk about things we can all relate to.Futhermore, since I've spent so little time in Nigeria, I can not discuss Nigeria beyond what I see on the news,read online or read in journals and newspapers.
